100 Words - Against

by JM

notebook.jpgHello everyone. I hope you all are having a lovely Wednesday so far. Or, if you are far away from my time zone, I hope you had a lovely Tuesday and will have an even better Wednesday. I hope you will join me in having a bit of wordy fun…

Once again the lovely Velvet Verbosity has provided us with a one word prompt for our weekly 100 words. If you participate, be sure to leave a link to your post here in the comments section and on the VV post for this week.

Without further ado, I must collect my thoughts on: Against

Our daughter Amelia, Melly for short, had decided at the wise age of three that she was politically minded.

“Like Alex, she would say.

Alex, ten years older, already had an interest in politics. Melly simply liked to let her opinion be known. Fortunately, she didn’t quite yet know how to deal with opposition from President Mom.

“I’m against eating carrots, she said one day, eyeing the orange veggies on the table.

“Well, I said, “I’m against you not eating your vegetables like a good little girl.

Melly blinked at that a few times and then said, “Well, maybe one.

This 100 words is actually inspired by a video I saw on a mom blog months ago (no, I’m not a mother, but I plan to be someday) but I don’t have the time to go hunting it down at the moment. Even so, I hope you like it.

Have a wonderful rest of the day and stop for a chat soon.

Ha! I love it. I totally thought you were a mom when I read it. “President Mom”…”I’m against eating carrots”. I remember moments like those. You capture well how kids try to exert their independence.

  2. the Wandering Author Says:

That’s a good one! I’m still turning ideas over in my head for this one. I hate to do the same old thing all the time. Still, I like yours; it was quite a trick, to fit that story into exactly 100 words.

  3. JM Says:

I’m glad you two like it. I had a lot of fun with it and was hoping that wanting to be a mom would count for something. :)

WA - It wasn’t easy. Hehe. I spent a lot of time trying to get it down.

  4. misty w Says:

I thought you were a mom when I read it, too. Great writing. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  5. the Wandering Author Says:

Well, I’ve got something up; be warned! I tried my hand at poetry this time.

  6. JM Says:

    Misty - :)

WA - Thanks for the linky!

  7. Secret Agent Mama Says:

    I didn’t like it… I LOVED IT!!

  8. JM Says:

    :) I’m glad.
