100 Words Turns into 300
I am way, way behind on my Velvet Verbosity 100 Words contributions. I haven’t quit. I promise. I just keep forgetting to do it. I’ll have to put yet another alarm in my Outlook calendar.
I’m going to let Mr. Frank Talbert loose on all three of these. I’m certain he (and possibly Treasure) will have something to say inspired by these words. If you need some refreshing on Frank, here is his last entry on Treasure.
Faster
Faster, faster, faster. Why did his heart beat ever faster?
Frank frowned at himself in his bathroom mirror. He knew why; he just didn’t want to admit it.
Treasure.
From the moment he had crashed into her while getting off the train, she had scarcely left his mind. And now his heart followed suit, beating faster or seeming to give a great flop whenever he paused long enough for her to drift nearly out of his thoughts.
Cursed body with its responses triggered by hormones trigged by involuntary emotional responses to outside stimuli!
But she had looked beautiful, hadn’t she?
Evolution
“In terms of evolution, we are pathetic,” Frank said. He looked at his coffee, trying to judge by the state of the café whether or not the cup had been thoroughly cleaned. “We have the technology, and yet we cannot – will not – bring every human being up to a livable standard.”
Treasure ‘hmmed’ softly, smiling, and sipped her coffee. One sugar, plenty of full cream milk, and a dash of cocoa.
He stared at her clean, sensibly manicured fingernails and his mouth went dry. His blood began to flow to places he didn’t want.
Evolution certainly hadn’t changed some things.
Fusion
Frank stayed completely silent as Ms. Amelia Treasure Wentworth spoke. She had a brilliant mind and an air of innocence unspoiled by the drudgery Frank saw all around him. She had the courage – or the stupidity – to have dreams for her life.
Treasure personified a fusion of beauty, grace, sensibility and optimism.
Frank cursed himself. People likening love to scientific terms made him ill, and yet, here he was doing the same. He had to stop this. All of it. Cut off contact before he drifted any further into this nonsense.
“Same time next week, Mr. Talbert?”
“Of course. Yes.”
Poor Frank. He’s getting all worked up, isn’t he? I wonder if Treasure has even the slightest clue what she’s getting into.

I caught your link to your late entry in Velvet Verbosity’s 100 word challenge. Very nice. But then I saw this site and its (or it’s - to contract ot not to contract, that is one of many questions I have) - anyway, I have always enjoyed putting pen to paper. I have many spiral notebooks filled. A habit I started back as a child. I have been blogging for quite awhile now and want to step it up a notch. Talent, well, probably not. It is the journey and experience I want. To work words into what I want them to say is all.
But getting serious criticisms by blogging buddies is next to impossible. I know if I aim to improve, I need to have writers better than I cast their critical eye on what I write and give me truth. Not canned comments that do nothing but stroke the ego.
My question is, can I get that here?

Very interesting. Hmm…would yours result in Lou’s post for the same word? I know that’s what happened before mine >:-)
Anyhow—I haven’t read the prior passages for Frank, but I know the thrill of having characters return time and time again to your work. I’m having an interesting time with these words, as I’ve got recurring characters since Treasure.
And I had to catch up with Fresh thru Evolution. Most were written, I just had to get them onto the screen, into a file, and onto the blog! They are there at least
I look forward to more!

MRMacrum - If you’re looking for honest feedback on your work, it would be worth your time to look around for writing forums as well as nose through the archives here for basic tips (I’d start with the pet peeves section). If you’re looking for an editor, than I can provide that, but am a freelancer and thus don’t generally work for free.
I hope that helps.
Allison - I’m glad you like it and have also been having fun with recurring characters.
…Lou?
