Little Reminders

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

reminders.jpgHello, hello and welcome to another Monday. I hope it’s not one of ‘those’ Mondays for you. It isn’t for me. I woke up ready to work, that’s for sure. I have a lot to do (as always), starting with this week’s list of little reminders.

Remember, some might have the same titles, but the writing underneath might have changed.

Scribes Blog Carnival

The next edition of the Scribes Blog Carnival will go up on November 5th. The deadline to submit is November 1st, and you are limited to two submissions. If you’d like to submit your links or want more information, check out the Scribes Carnival page.

I’m especially looking for thoughts about NaNoWriMo and NaBloPoMo.

Scribes Newsletter

Although I am no longer doing the Scribes newsletter, I still have the previous PDFs. If you are interested in one or more of them, contact me and I’ll send you what you request.

NaNoWriMo

Are you ready for NaNo? Do you have an idea of what you’ll be writing about? Write about it on your blog and submit it to the blog carnival. Also check in here through November for NaNo breaks where you can rant, rave, or simply sit and rock back and forth if you like. I’m here, if you’d like to add me as a friend.

NaBloPoMo

This is my first year participating, and I’m quite confident I’ll be able to do it not only here on Fiction Scribe, but also on Write Anyway and my personal blog. This is my page here.

If you check out the prize page for NaBlo, you might see a familiar name there soon… I’m offering a copy of “No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog”

Remember, you have to be in it to win it!

Book Contest

Like free books? Check in every Friday here at Fiction Scribe and comment on the interviews posted for your chance to win a copy of the book the author is on tour for. You already have a chance at:

Mayra Calvani’s Dark Lullaby
and
L. Diane Wolfe’s Mike - Circle of Friends Book IV

Write Anyway

The theme over at Write Anyway is passion! Stop over there for some inspiration.

Author Interview PDF

I haven’t forgotten about the author interviews PDF. I really just need the time to put it all together, edit, format… All that good stuff. If you’re absolutely set on having a copy, feel free to contact me and tell me to get my butt into gear.

The Book Stacks

My first post is up over at The Book Stacks! We’re having some technical difficulties, so I’m not the post author yet, but it is me. I promise! Head on over and play the ‘A Book by any Other Name’ game.

That’s all for today. Enjoy the last full week of October and have some fun!

Weekly Writing Challenge

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

writing-pad.jpgHello once again!

How did last week’s challenge work out for you? Putting in my 200 words a day over the last week, I finally got over 6,000 words in on my current novel in progress. I’m rather proud of myself, even though I’ll probably get rid of half of it in heavy editing.

I’m only too well aware that in two weeks we’ll have already started NaNoWriMo and NaBloPoMo, both of which I am signed up for. That’s why I am upping the weekly challenge in an effort to get you warmed up for NaNoWriMo. (more…)

The Big Book Meme

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

books.jpgI found this meme at Tiny Treasury. Though it’ll be embarrassing to put it up, I will anyway so you can all kick my bum to read some more classics. (Keep in mind, though, that I didn’t exactly have a normal childhood. So there.)

Bold those you’ve read.
Italicize books you have started but couldn’t finish.
Add an asterisk* to those you have read more than once.
Underline those on your To Be Read list.

(They should include an option for “…if you have seen the movie”.)

L. Diane Wolfe’s Mike: Circle of Friends Book IV

Friday, October 19th, 2007

mike.jpg
Welcome to another author interview here on Fiction Scribe. Today I’m talking with L. Diane Wolfe, author of the Circle of Friends series. I hope you’ll join me in welcoming her to Fiction Scribe. Remember, by commenting, you have a chance at winning a copy of her book!

Hello and thank you for stopping at Fiction Scribe, Mrs. Wolfe. Tell the readers a bit about yourself.

I’m an optimistic, fiery redhead who does not believe in the word impossible! Online I am known as “Spunk On A Stick? and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to spread the message of hope found within my series.

Originally a West Coast girl, I grew up in Salem, Oregon and moved across the country several times. I now reside North Carolina with my husband and two cats, Rocko & Spunky. I enjoy sports, take photos professionally, and have a passion for roller coasters.

What brought you into the world of writing? When did you start?

I’ve always been a reader, devouring several books a week. However, the desire to write sparked inside of me when I read Anne McCaffrey’s “The White Dragon?. I admired the richness of character in her books. Holding that book in my hands, I could picture my own name on the cover. At the age of just thirteen, I set a goal of becoming an author. That was many years ago!

You’re currently on virtual tour for your young adult book Mike: Circle of Friends Book IV. Could you tell us a bit about the series and the latest book? (more…)

Mayra Calvani’s Dark Lullaby

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

microphone1.jpgHi everyone! You’ll have to forgive the change of schedule today, but I’m quite ill and really can’t do a discussion today. The discussion will continue next week, though, so be sure to be all caught up by then!

We worked out all the technical difficulties from last Friday, and now I am pleased to present to you my interview with the author of the horror novel Dark Lullaby: Mayra Calvani. I hope you’ll join me in welcoming her to Fiction Scribe. Be sure to leave her a comment for a chance to win a copy of her book.

Without further ado…

Hello and thank you for stopping at Fiction Scribe, Mayra. Tell the readers a bit about yourself.

Thanks for having me on your blog! I’m a Puerto Rican author and book reviewer. I enjoy writing in a variety of genres—paranormal, suspense, fantasy, mystery, satire, nonfiction, and also children’s and young adult. I currently have three books out—Embraced by the Shadows (paranormal/vampire), Dark Lullaby (paranormal thriller) and The Magic Violin (children’s picture book) with several more coming out soon in 2007-8.

What brought you into the world of writing? When did you start?

I was an avid reader since I was a little kid and began writing fiction at an early age. I think I was twelve when I started writing complete short stories and novellas. Reading and writing went along together and I always had my head in a book or my hands on a typewriter. The desire to create similar worlds as those I encountered in books, the need to have an outlet for my imagination led me naturally to the world of the written word.

You’re currently on virtual tour for your horror novel Dark Lullaby. Could you tell us a bit about the book? (more…)

Pet Peeve #41 - Nancy Drew and the Case of the ‘S

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007
pet-peeves.jpg

Don’t ask about the title. Put it up to the flu now having taken over my brain.

Talk about basics. You’d think the whole ‘s’ versus ‘’s’ would be a natural thing. Well, perhaps not natural, but at least well known. But apparently it’s not, even in the adult world where a coffee shop can’t even have marshmallow spelled correctly on their menu.

I hope you’ll join me over there as I put my hand to more book reviews, being brave enough to post my huge reading list, and other things.

And that’s it for announcements! That wasn’t so bad, was it?
