2009: Year of the Novel
That’s right; I’m declaring 2009 the Year of the Novel.
Now I just need some awesome looking graphic.
The more I have thought about it over the past week and a half, the more I have come to call 2008 ‘the Year of Working Like a Dog’. Not that any dogs I have ever owned actually worked, but you know what I mean. It’s the ‘lost’ year where I spent too much time working and paying bills – without having paid off all that much more when it comes down to it – and not enough time nurturing my creative side.
2008 saw me doubt my ability to write creatively, admit and confront my fears about writing (who would have ever thought I’d have writing fears?), and finally, in December, start to make time for the important things in my life.
For the rest of the year (and beyond), I want to continue on with what I started last month. I want to balance my personal life, work life, and writing life much better than I did last year. That includes committing to the things I wanted to do in 2008 but ‘didn’t have the time for’.
This year I’m making the time.
That includes taking Artist Days (or Afternoons if I am well and truly pressed for time) on Mondays. I took my first this Monday and it felt fantastic to be dedicating a solid block of time to writing creatively.
Especially this month but I’m hoping also into the rest of the year, I’m going to be focusing on making time to write, getting the first draft finish, facing your writing fears and much more. I’ll be having guest authors stop in and talk about those subjects and will refocus on posting open writing markets.
I’ll also be sure to mention any submissions/publications for me personally, and I hope you’ll stop by to do the same.
