Author Interview with Traci Hall
Hello and welcome to Fiction Scribe, Ms. Hall.
Hi! Thank you so much for having me.
Letʼs start with getting to know you a little better. List five things you feel define you as a person.
Wow! What a way to start- serious introspection, lol. Let me get my coffee…
1.My family and friends
2.My drive to be a writer
3. My drive to be a writer who makes a living wage
4. My lapsed-Catholic need to be a good person, and to absorb guilt from five miles away.
And last but not least, the fifth thing to define me as a person would be …
5. My ability to drink my weight in white zinfandel and sing bad karaoke
Where did the inspiration for Loveʼs Magic come from?
I love historical romances that have funny, strong heroines and a bit of mystery in them, so that’s what I set out to write. I’d just finished co-writing two contemporary romantic suspense novels with my sister in law, and I missed writing historical - I liked Robinhood, Arthur and Merlin, so I picked the medieval era and dove into research.
What makes Loveʼs Magic different from other paranormal romances?
Love’s Magic has a mystery thread, murder and a haunted keep. Both my hero and my heroine have family curses to overcome before they can truly be happy. There’s a lot of action going on!
Tell us about Celestia and Nicholas.
Celestia is petite and blond, and has inherited the maternal ability to heal. She was also supposed to get height and red hair, but her sisters got those. She feels the constant need to prove that she is worthy, even though she is talented and beautiful in her own right. Nicholas is a man betrayed by everyone he trusted, including, in his mind, God. He has some serious issues to sort out before he can even think about love, and yet Celestia draws him like a magnet. He is dark, and she is light.
What are your dreams for your writing? Where do you see yourself in five years both as a writer and as a person?
I hope to be a writer who is earning a living as a writer. I’ve blended my dream with my career plan so that I have a realistic shot at making it happen. I’m networking, teaching workshops, and taking workshops. Five years can go by so fast! Do you realize that it will be the year 2013? They might come out with a permanent hair dye by then so I don’t have to cover the gray every six weeks!
What is the most valuable piece of advice you have been given/learned in your life as a writer?
The coolest thing someone pointed out to me (after I was lamenting the fact that publishing can be soooo slow) was that doctors and lawyers go to school and then they do internships before they start making money. If it takes twelve years, so be it…I am writing, I’m being published, and I’ll keep on moving forward. Traci the Turtle. That’s me, lol.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the readers here?
Never give up. If you want the dream to be a reality, stop thinking of it as only a dream. Dreams can be inaccessible - turn your dream into a goal, and it becomes something you can work toward, one step at a time.
Thank you very much for coming by this blog. I wish you great successes with Loveʼs Magic.
