Dwayne Anderson’s Partially Human

Hello and welcome to another author interview. I have the pleasure of interviewing young adult science fiction author Dwayne Anderson. He’s currently on virtual tour for his book Partially Human, a story of discovery and change.

Hello and welcome to Fiction Scribe. Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a Canadian author who has found a way to express himself, his deepest thoughts, and emotions into written works.

How did you get into writing? Did you always want to be a writer?

My first experience in creative writing when in an early grade in school. We were assigned to write a creative story, but I didn’t think I had the creativity to do so. I was given a special assignment that no one else got. I was to fill in the missing details of a story that was already written, such as how the protagonist solves his problems.

You’ll be the ripe old age of twenty-five on the 23rd of this month. Do you consider yourself to be young in the world of published authors?

Most other authors take years to get to where I have. So yes, I do consider myself young, since I was only twenty when my first book came out.

Does your age have anything to do with you writing young adult fiction or is it purely something you have always gravitated toward?

My experiences in life is what gives me the inspiration to write some of my stories. I would consider myself a young adult writer since the books focus on the teenage and young adult reader while focusing on very serious issues that only they could understand.

You were diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome when you were sixteen. Does this work itself into your writing? If so, how? Can you tell us a little about the syndrome for those who aren’t familiar with it?

After the diagnosis, life for me changed. People started to treat me differently and many doubted my ability to live a normal life, but I’m determined to make something of myself.

Asperger Syndrom is a brain disorder that makes people think differently than others. They tend to perceive the world around them in a way that others normally wouldn’t. What’s easy for some people isn’t so easy for them, and vice versa.

You’re currently on tour for your book “Partially Human?. Can you tell us a little about the book and what inspired it?

My experiences with being different gave me the inspiration to write “Partially Human”, a story about a teenager and how his life changes forever when he discovers that he carries the genes of a dying alien species in his body.

Picture yourself ten years ago. Would you have ever pictured yourself where you are now? Did you always aspire to become a published novelist?

I haven’t always imagined myself as a writer. Come to think of it, years ago, I had no idea what to do with my life.

I find all of the authors I interview have a lot in their lives that seems to make writing a near impossibility sometimes. How did you and how do you have time to write?

Writing is more of a hobby for me and I do so in my spare time and when I know what to write. Anyone can write a story if they have the creativity to do so.

What are you currently working on?

I have several more works planned. Currently, I have two more written books I’m working on, one I hope to have published by the end of the year, and another that I’m currently proofreading. I also have planned in the future a medieval fantasy, another science fiction, general fiction, and romance.

Are there any authors who inspired/inspire you in your writing?

No, I don’t do much reading, nor do I prefer one author over another.

Any non-authors?

Nope.

Do you have a muse? If so, who or what is it?

What’s a muse?

Do you have any guilty pleasures when it comes to writing?

None.

What are your dreams for your writing?

Someday, I hope to write a bestseller, or even get a movie deal!

Do you have any advice for writers who are dealing with physical or mental/emotional problems?

Stay focused on your goals and relax. Too much stress can only make things worse.

Do you have any advice for writers in general?

No matter how good your work is, there is always room for improvement. We all grow up as a writer with each new work we pen.

Thank you so much for your time.

You’re welcome.
