Final Bird by Bird Discussion
Hello everyone, and welcome to the very last discussion of Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. We have been having these discussions since August and it has been a wonderful experience.
I have revisited things I’d learned and forgotten, and I have learned new things. I have new techniques to approach my writing with, and I am very happy with the overall experience I have had reading this book.
We are now reading the last section and chapter of the book, the appropriately named The Last Class.
I hope you’ll join me today in discussing this last section of what has been a wonderful book.
This chapter was a good summing up of what she has talked about in this book. I could almost feel her passion in what she wrote, and that makes this last section all the better as the finishing section.
I also think this was a great time to talk about libel like Lamott did. It’s an important thing if you write material that isn’t flattering about someone and you don’t care to be sued. If I ever try to get some of my more interesting projects published, I’ll have to do a rewrite and make sure I take the advice Lamott has given.
However, I’m glad that’s not where she stopped, though. It was a very complete final chapter, with her finishing with talking about why every writer’s writing is important.
I think a great quote to end things with is, “Even if you never publish a word, you have something important to pour yourself into.
