Have Notebook, Will Travel

I admit it. I am a bit obsessive about carrying a notebook with me everywhere I go. If I am working on more than one project at the same time, I have been known to have multiple notebooks with me. I didn’t use to be so careful to have pen and paper with me at all times, but I got tired of losing ideas. All it takes it losing the mythical *perfect idea* once, and you will be sure to carry a notebook and pen with you forevermore. Mind you, there are places that a notebook will not help you. So, I offer you my list of:
Five Places That May Be Great For Thinking, But Not So Great For Jotting Down Ideas
1. While driving in the fast lane. (At this point you’d better be wearing your cell phone headset and have someone understanding to call. Or, better yet, have a passenger with pen and paper.)

2. While you are in the shower. (The shower is my favorite place to think, but the Erasable Shower Note Tablet I found is *still* out of stock, and I can’t talk my little sister into sitting in the bathroom and taking notes for me any more. She’s kinda all grown up and has a life now. *sigh*)

3. While swimming. (Or any other enjoyable sport that involves your hands. At this point, you’re just going to need a really good memory.)

4. When it’s too dark to see your notebook. (You may get lucky here if you have pen and paper with you, and you have very precise handwriting. On the other hand, you may end up with something you can’t read afterwards.)
JM says: I do that all the time!

5. Any time you actually managed to forget your notebook. (Yes, this will be when your muse is most likely to strike, no matter what else you are doing. If you did remember your pen seek a writable surface. This may include your skin.)
I suppose what we learn from this is that there are generally ways around the lack of notebook problem, but I’d prefer not to deal with them. Hopefully, you won’t have to either. May you always have fabulous ideas and may your notebook always be nearby.

Wow, JM. This sort of makes it look like a spend a lot of time writing. *ponders* Well…I suppose I do.
Have a fabulous wedding!

I used to joke that I was the only writer in the world without a pen. Paper I could find, but pens elude me!

Hey, that’s so true. Specially number 5, man, that’s happened to me lots of times.
Also, I would add the minute before falling asleep, when you have this great idea but are too tired to wake up and write it down (even if your notebook’s right there next to you on the table) and you fall asleep and wake up remembering half or a quarter of it
Nice page,
W.

Georganna - Me too! Pens are always running away from me.
Wonder - That happened to me just last night. Oy. How annoying.
