Muses Prt. 1 - Do you use the muse?

by JM

The concept of a muse has always amused me. I’ve never claimed or thought to lay claim to one myself, but I’m thinking I might take it up. :D

This post is short mainly because I’d like to hear from everyone else before I start getting into things.

So I ask, do you have a muse? What is he/she/it like? Does your muse take frequent vacations to Thailand and stick you with the bill?

Let me know because I’m eager to hear what everyone has to say on the subject. :)

  1. Elisa Says:

Is this the point where I tell you that my nickname is Calliope?

  2. Bethany Says:

    nope, no muse. just me.

  3. NeelimaP Says:

    For me muse is home.

  4. Sara Says:

I never used to call my ability to write my muse. But it simplifies things when trying to explain why you want to write, have the idea, can picture the scene, know the backstory and characters and still can not put words to page.

    Blame it on the muse.

The muse to me is just the feeling in you that says whether you are in the writing zone or not.

  5. Dana Says:

I myself have a very quiet muse who only takes me at random points of weakness and forces me to write for about a week non-stop, and then retreats back into hibernation just as I’m getting into whatever it is that muse had me writing in the first place.

My mum sure has one helluva vocal muse though, as she is up every night writing from 1-3:30 AM. I really don’t know about her…

  6. Sylver Says:

Elisa - Hehe. I think I read that somewhere. *g* So a muse all on your own, hm?

Bethany - That has been my feeling since I started writing.

Neelima - Home is certainly a good muse. :)

Sara - It does make things a bit more simple, doesn’t it? Easier to say your muse is off and about or your muse won’t leave you alone.

Dana - Don’t you hate it when they do that? ;) And talk about a muse with your mum! Sheesh. I don’t think I could ever do that.

  7. Dana Says:

Yes, those darn muses. And my mum… is certainly one of a kind. :D

  8. Elisa Says:

    :)
It took my friends forever to remember not to say things like “If the muse strikes me.”

  9. Sylver Says:

Dana - I think I’d have to have a word or two with a muse who took away from my sleeping time. :D

Elisa - Hahaha. Even if that took them forever, that’s still better than my friends, who never would. :P
