PaperBackSwap
In my internet wanderings, I came across PaperBackSwap.com which basically lets you post up a list of books you’re willing to trade and request books you’d like to receive. I can’t promise it works, but I nosed around the site and it looks like a nice operation that has been set up.
I’m pretty sure it’s only available in the United States (maybe I should start one in Australia…) right now, but I could be mistaken. It looks like a lot of fun, and I wish I would have discovered it a long time ago.
Happy book hunting!

My wife uses this service quite a bit and is exceptionally satisfied with it.

There are actually quite a few of those services… like bookcrossing.com and bookmooch.com. I just have the problem of getting rid of my books. Once I buy them… I tend to hang on to them!
I hadn’t heard of this one though. I’ll have to look into it. Thank you for sharing.

jim - she is? I’m glad to hear it. I’m always a bit wary of posting up things that might be a scam.
Rashenbo - I know what you mean! My collection has dwindled because I moved, but before that…

This seems like a cool idea, though a few months ago I sold about 40-50 books to a used book store, so unfortunately I guess I found out about it too late.

Cody - I guess it’s one of those things you wish you would have known about earlier. It certainly is in my case.

I’m too lazy to participate in book swap, but I do adore bookcrossing.org. The only downside I’ve found so far is that it takes so long for people to register your book if they find it - and some books just seem to be lost forever. I’m really hoping that my books do find their way to new owners and don’t just end up in the round file.

I have yet to check out the actual site, but it sounds like it’s a good idea as well. I like the appreciation you and other owners have for their books in wanting them to have good homes. I wish you luck.
