The Last NaNo Break
As the final days of NaNo come to pass, whether you made it to the goal of 50k words or not, you’re likely to wonder why you entered in the first place.
Perhaps it’s the rush. Most of us can identify with that. NaNo is a sort of rollercoaster ride of constant pressure and large mugs off coffee. Or perhaps this is the one great motivation to really start getting into that next novel.
No matter what it is, no matter what your word count, in a few days the 2006 NaNoWriMo will be done.
I’m calling mine early and saying that the second year will pass by without me getting to the 50k. However, I do have over 30k at this point (and hopefully 40k by the time NaNo ends), and that is a lot more than I got done on NaNo last year, so I’m proud of myself.
All said and done, NaNoWriMo is one more way for usually somewhat introverted writers to come out to the playground with other writers. 100 words or 51k, we all know in general ways where everyone has been and generally where everyone wants to go. I’ve identified with more people over the last month than I normally encounter any other month of the year.
For that, NaNo, I am please to have given it another attempt.
And now, I go back to read what I’ve typed so far and give it a good polish before going on to finish it.

I think NaNoWriMo is an amazing experience even if you don’t reach 50,000 words. It’s fun to put your writing first for a month.
I am still a few thousand words short but hopefully I will cross 50,000 before midnight November 30th.

I think you can do it.
And yes, it is awesome to put your writing first for a time and have that as your main focus.
